So it's not just internet mojo... I finally got around to taking the assembly apart and spraying some WD40 on it -- and the volume works now without scratching, out of both channels. I am very pleased -- thanks again.

Man I love the internet. I've had this exact issue with my Klipsch computer speakers. Scratchiness and sometimes loss of volume altogether, whenever I touch the Volume control, has driven me bananas. I put up with it because the sound is so good. I will give your suggestion a shot later on today!

Thanks for posting.

I remember when Radio Shack used to sell the material actually needed to correct this issue. It was called "TV Tuner Cleaner". Well now, we know TVs no longer have an actual "Tuner" knob on them an them anymore, all it was "Rubbing Alcohol". I guess WD-40 will fix that, might want to watch out for deposits and shorting out the across the leads.

One problem I noticed, the kid blew it up one day and it stopped working. Well, although it (probably) says "no user serviceable parts" there are two fuses in the main subwoofer which are easily replacable if you remove the un-mentionable number holding it together. Radio Shack sells fuses the correct size, but not the correct rating. You can go slightly higher if you use a fast blow fuse. Going lower would probably give you peace of mind, but then you would be back in there again since the kids these days listen to music till their ears are sore (lol).
