Recently i had been having trouble with my HDVR2 Directtivo Box with pixelating of the recording and live images comeing from my second tuner of the box.I tried rewireing the dish,no luck

I tried Running new wire direct for the dish to the reciever NO LUCK

I tried swaping the cables on the back of the reciever and was able to narrow it down to the tuner 2 inside the box itself. Now faced with the dilema of having to replace the unit i was unhappy to say the least.

Hours of rearanging the wires for nothing.

I searched and i searched for an answer using HDVR tuner trouble , second tuner on hdvr2 pixelated nothing.

HDVR2 tuner 2 out nothing

finally i found an answer and the answer was not what i expected, this may work for you if you have found this while searching as i did.

STEP one … are you using S-Video to connect to the tv… if yes this may help

Step two UNPLUG S-Video wait five minutes did this fix it. TADA

Surprised it worked SO WAS I . I found the answer here and here,But hopefull you will find this with a little quicker searching HOPE THIS HELPS

Today i discoverd that i had an entire directory of Quicktime Movies from an old Camera I had, that only did them in that format. The Challange with so many .mov files was trying to decipher what was what in a timely fashion. By default windows xp does not display Quicktime thumbnails but i have an answer and it is working for me. A project called quickthumb to the rescue http://www.ocf.berkeley.edu/~mbarrien/projects/. It’s a “.dll” file that you can install to show quicktime thumbnails. I’ve tried it and it works great fine. In case you’re not sure how to install it (ignore this if you are!) - download the dll (binary) file and copy it into the c:\windows\system32 folder. Then open up the “command prompt” from start>all programs>accessories. At the blinking prompt type c:\windows\system32\regsvr32 quickthumb.dll
You should then get a confirmation message. Now browse the folder you want in thumbnail mode and you should see the quicktime thumbnail
Tada . Thanks to Paul Argyle

Today Leo Laporte and Steve Gibson were discussing Secunia’s Personal Software inspector

I have tried it out and Wow it is a very handy tool. Its similar to a program I had used in years past called OilChange AKA PitStop its goal is to go thru and check versions of software that are on your computer and Inform you of any outdated updated or end of life statuses .

PCWORLD ” ” ” The Secunia Personal Software Inspector isn’t perfect, but keeping your computer up-to-date is one of the best ways to stay safe. PSI picks up the same version information you would see if you right-clicked a program file, chose Properties, and then selected the Version tab. But if an app doesn’t report the right version of itself, as happened with my Thunderbird e-mail software, PSI won’t list the proper version either. If you click the name of any listed insecure software, you’ll get handy links to patches or newer software versions. You’ll also receive a link to Secunia’s advisory about why your version isn’t safe, and explanations of the multiple versions of a program you may see listed.

Note:To obtain all this data, the program communicates with Secunia’s servers. According to its privacy statement, the firm stores information about your software for up to 12 months, but it doesn’t collect any personal data beyond version numbers. “

I give this Program a Big THumbs up tryit its free for Personal USE https://psi.secunia.com/
